Measurements and volunteering work

Yesterday we where again working at Pieni-Valkeinen. Last friday we noticed some trash and metal waste in lake surroundings. After little discussion we decided to collect wastes off because we are moving in any case in the area. And we did, students collected two sacks of little trash and then some ancient parts of car. Thanks to Jari, collected waste goes straight to the Jätekukko's waste center. Thank you, our energetic students! This kind of volunteer work the people of Päiväranta will certainly appreciate.

We took last water samples from the lake and did last measurements concerning Pieni-Valkeinen lake. Water samples where frozen because we are analyzing them after three weeks. Short-term freezing doesn't have significant effect to nutrients in water.

Next, after the autumn break, it is time to evaluate the properties of groundwater coming from the hills of Puijo. Water in Pieni-Valkeinen is partly groundwater and it is important to know some facts about that when evaluating environmental state of the lake.

By the way, I measured ground water level first time yesterday. It was 3.1 meters abowe the lake. Interesting, we didn't expect that...
